When people talk about SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) or any transformation project, the conversation often begins with technology—data models, extensions, integrations, and AI. But in my experience, the real magic of BTP doesn’t just come from its capabilities; it comes from the people who gather around it.
A platform becomes powerful when it inspires collaboration. That’s where community building comes in. Whether you’re a developer, architect, or business user, being part of a thriving community accelerates learning, drives adoption, and sparks innovation in ways no single project team can achieve alone.
Who I Am
I’m Vikash Kumar – SAP BTP DevOps & AI Manager at Bluestonex (member of the SAP AppHaus Network), a mentor guiding SAP Tech professionals at Modish Tech (my own digital brand), and a trustee for The Sanatan Parivar charity, aiming to bring communities together.
I’ve been fortunate to see SAP BTP evolve from its very beginnings, and I’m thankful to the organisations I worked for—and continue to work with—for allowing me to explore it right from when it was first introduced.
My passion lies in bridging innovation with community impact—using technology not just to solve business challenges, but also to empower people. Over the years, I’ve seen how focusing on people first changes the trajectory of projects, communities, and careers.
Now, back to the topic…
Technology Is Only Part of the Equation
SAP BTP offers incredible capabilities that reshape business operations. But these tools are only as effective as the people who imagine, build, and sustain them. Without shared understanding, collaboration, and knowledge transfer, even the most advanced solutions risk becoming underutilised—or worse, becoming that “cool proof of concept” everyone forgets about six months later.
The People-First Advantage
So what does “people first” look like in the SAP BTP journey?
- Confidence Through Enablement – These days, enablement is the key. With an ever-changing tech stack—and especially in the SAP ecosystem, where constant branding and rebranding often push older content into the bin—newcomers are left confused about where to start. Classic example is SAP Integration Suite in the community is known by different names, CPI, IS, CI… everyone has their own version. We still refer Work Zone as the launchpad. These are just few examples of why consistent enablement matters. Without it, people struggle to build confidence; with it, they can navigate the shifts, embrace the new, and grow faster.
- Knowledge Sharing – Empowering teams through open discussions, blogs, and mentorship ensures that expertise doesn’t sit in silos. It’s easy to explore technology and build a proof of concept individually. But if we multiply this, it’s even more powerful. This means everyone in a team is doing it, think about the productivity and work delivered by the team.
- Collaboration Over Isolation – The best BTP outcomes I’ve seen came from cross-functional teams and communities working together, not from lone experts. Let’s be real, you cannot do everything on your own. You need people with expertise in different areas.
- Innovation Through Conversation – Some of the most creative BTP use cases I’ve seen didn’t start with a specification sheet; they started with people brainstorming and challenging each other. An example of this is the SAP BTP Monitor, which the team at Bluestonex delivered when we had nothing where we can see the SAP BTP consumption. Now SAP have come up with this option in the cockpit. There are many gaps, and people at Bluestonex fill these gaps with apps, all that starts with a conversation!
Rethinking the Balance
Process and technology will always matter—but they’re accelerators, not starting points. When you put people first, you create an environment where processes can adapt and technologies can scale. Skip the people, and you risk building solutions that look great on paper but struggle in practice.
Building a Community That Lasts
That’s why community matters so much in the SAP BTP journey. Communities create ecosystems where growth is mutual—where experts share not just what they know, but also lift others to succeed. By doing so, they multiply value far beyond what technology alone can deliver.
This is why I’ve chosen to write here. My goal is to contribute to a community where knowledge flows openly and people feel empowered to innovate together. In future posts, I’ll share practical ways to accelerate BTP learning and adoption, grounded in the belief that people must always come first.
Join the Conversation
SAP BTP will continue to evolve, but one principle remains constant: people drive progress.
So, I’ll leave you with this question: In your SAP BTP journey, how have people made a difference?
Your story might be the one that inspires someone else to grow. And if nothing else, you’ll save someone from endlessly googling “Is it still called SAP Cloud Platform or…?”
