CNH is a world-class equipment, technology and services company dedicated to sustainably advancing the essential work of agriculture and construction professionals. To increase agility and productivity, the company has embarked on a human resources transformation journey with the goal of fostering a culture of continuous improvement and engagement supported by an enhanced employee experience.
With a presence in 180 countries, 42 production plants and 49 research and development centers, CNH provides a comprehensive range of agricultural and construction products, including smart and connected machinery alongside precision farming tools that maximize productivity by using integrated digital technologies such as automation, connectivity, and data analysis. CNH’s portfolio includes prestigious brands: Case IH, New Holland, CASE and New Holland Construction.
“We have a long history that goes back to 1842,” says Giovanni Gregorutti, group lead for HRIS Digital Transformation at CNH. “We have been pioneering equipment and services development for farmers and builders for over 180 years. We are striving to provide the very best machinery and technology to make their lives easier and their businesses more efficient and profitable.”
Empowering employees and HR for increased productivity
Representing CNH’s commitment to developing new solutions and ideas are its over 40,000 talented employees, spread over 34 countries, who work together in seamless collaboration to deliver specialized products and services for the agriculture and construction industries.
“Our employees are our most valuable asset. A satisfied customer reflects an efficient and dedicated team that shares the same values, holds each other accountable, and strives to delivering the best for our customers,” Gregorutti comments.
Having used SAP’s on-premise human capital management (HCM) solution since 2009, CNH began to encounter challenges with its legal software which struggled to keep up with the dynamic needs of a modern workforce. Soon, it became clear that CNH needed to move to the cloud for a comprehensive transformation of its HR system and to harness AI.
CNH chose SAP SuccessFactors as the foundation for its cloud-based HR transformation, as it offers comprehensive, scalable, and easy-to-use solutions that integrate seamlessly with other systems, as well as robust analytics capabilities. This change was necessary, according to Gregorutti who adds: “We knew it was time to make a shift in terms of improving the employee experience and to leverage the new capabilities, including AI. Moving to SAP SuccessFactors was an obvious choice.”
The implementation of the SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central solution as the core HR system platform for all 40,000 CNH employees, including integrating 10 new payroll platforms took place in just 11 months.
In January 2024, CNH introduced the SAP SuccessFactors Performance & Goals solution to support all employees for goals setting. The solution can connect to the SAP Integration Suite to enable seamless analytics capabilities that can lead to better data visibility and data-driven decision-making. “We’re about to close the first year of the performance management cycle using the new module,” comments Roberto Lanzavecchia, head of Global Talent Management at CNH, highlighting the value of SAP SuccessFactors Performance & Goals in simplifying processes for the HR team and employees. “We then went live with the SAP SuccessFactors Succession & Development module in September 2024, which we used it for the first time to present to our leadership team the succession plan, and the main talent indicators of our employees, allowing each manager to work on their talent pipeline creation and development.”
Building an agile, efficient, and people-centric work environment.
After completing the early stages of its transformation journey, CNH is already experiencing the benefits of SAP’s HR management cloud solutions, which are bringing improved efficiency, better data visibility, and greater agility. By simplifying HR processes, CNH has achieved new levels of process optimization, so that HR tasks are managed more efficiently. HR team can increase their focus on higher-level strategic initiatives and time spent with employees.
Thanks to improved data visibility, CNH can advance its people strategy and plan long term. Talent management, for example, has improved because succession planning based on talent data enables more effective identification and development of future leaders.
“The transformation has created a more agile, efficient, and employee-centric environment at CNH, enhancing the overall employee experience and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and engagement,” Gregorutti and Lanzavecchia comment.
Making Every Employee a Success Story
Employees now have the benefits of an elevated experience – one of the primary goals of CNH’s HR transformation. With support for continuous feedback and goal setting, employees are engaged and motivated, in part because they are more connected to their goals and receive regular feedback from managers, who are now more accountable for their teams’ development and performance through timely and constructive feedback.
“We are proud of our partnership with CNH on their HR journey”, says Peter Lowe, Head of HCM Customer Success EMEA, SAP. “Our collaboration was focused on ensuring that CNH creates a climate of inclusivity and growth that allows it’s HR team to helps every employee find success, success that ultimately delivers CNH business and productivity outcomes”.
