B Corp Certification is a global recognition of meeting rigorous standards of performance, accountability, and transparency in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance).
To obtain its B Corp status Gemserv went through a rigorous externally audited process that required it to demonstrate best practice across environmental sustainability, community impact, employee benefits, customer stewardship and business governance.
Alex Goody, Gemserv Chief Executive, said:
“Businesses must do more than simply make a profit – they must discharge a wider responsibility to society and the environment. We embrace this ethos at Gemserv, with everything we do about tackling today’s social and environmental challenges.
Receiving B Corp status is external verification of our approach. But it’s not job done, we want to continue to grow our ESG impact, and B-Corp will hold our feet to the fire with recertification required every 3 years.
Our staff, and increasingly, our clients, expect nothing less than the highest standard of ESG – and I am proud we have achieved this prestigious recognition.”
B-Corps view business as a force for good. There are around 700 B-Corps in the UK, 4,800 globally, and they are recognised as the gold standard in ESG performance. A key part of accreditation is a requirement to change the company’s articles – the so-called ‘mission lock’. This places a legal obligation on B Corps to have a positive impact on society and the environment and to consider the impact of their decisions on all stakeholders.
