After more than a decade delivering bespoke systems for UK SMEs, Web Alliance has launched WAMRAD (Web Alliance Manufacturing Rapid Application Development), a new platform designed to give SME manufacturers a more flexible and affordable route between off-the-shelf software and fully bespoke systems.
Many smaller manufacturers continue to rely on spreadsheets, disconnected systems and manual workarounds because traditional ERP projects are often too expensive, disruptive or slow to justify.
Off-the-shelf platforms can be quick to deploy but often force businesses to change the way they work, while fully bespoke systems can cost in excess of £50,000 and take more than a year to deliver.
Built specifically for manufacturers, WAMRAD enables businesses to deploy flexible, scalable systems in as little as one week once initial business data has been uploaded. The platform supports core manufacturing workflows including enquiries, quotations, sales orders, job scheduling, bill of materials, shop floor tracking, purchase orders, reporting and dashboards.
At its core is a ready-to-use CRM foundation that can be expanded through modular functionality, allowing businesses to evolve the platform over time into a fully tailored ERP system as operational needs grow. Unlike traditional SaaS platforms, every WAMRAD deployment is delivered as a dedicated instance, ensuring manufacturers retain full ownership of their data from day one. For clients undertaking significant customisation, access to the source code can also be provided, giving them the flexibility to manage future development in-house if required.
A key differentiator is its transparent and accessible pricing model. WAMRAD is available with a £300 one-time setup fee and a £300 per month subscription for up to 10 users, with additional users priced at £10 per month. Customisation is delivered through a tiered hourly rate structure, reducing costs for larger development projects.
WAMRAD’s “building block” approach enables manufacturers to start small and scale at their own pace, adding capabilities such as production management, reporting and workflow automation as needed. Once initial business data, including customer details, suppliers, inventory, warehousing information and user details, is uploaded, the system can typically be operational within approximately one week.
A proprietary “tree structure” scheduling system allows businesses to manage complex, multi-component or bespoke jobs while maintaining full visibility across each stage of production.
WAMRAD is supported by a UK-based, 8am–3pm, Mon – Fri technical hotline providing direct access to support alongside a ticketing support system that’s available anytime.
In one previous manufacturing project, a bespoke system initially estimated to take 12 months ultimately required 18 months to complete, as additional refinements, testing and reworking were needed once the client began using the platform.
By contrast, Web Alliance’s WAMRAD approach has already helped accelerate delivery on a comparable project for a steel manufacturing company. Using a modular, staged development process, the business was able to begin using core functionality early while more specific production workflows were developed and tested in parallel. The project was delivered in six months, significantly reducing development time, improving collaboration and lowering overall costs compared with a fully bespoke build.
Ashish Kumar, director of Web Alliance, said: “Our clients have consistently told us there simply isn’t a viable middle-ground option for SME manufacturers. They either have to compromise with rigid software or commit to long, expensive development projects. With WAMRAD, we’ve created something that can be up and running in around a week, but which doesn’t limit how the system can evolve. It gives manufacturers a starting point that actually grows with them.”
The platform can also work alongside existing accounting systems and drawing platforms through CSV imports and exports, enabling manufacturers to improve their systems without replacing their entire technology stack.
The launch builds on Web Alliance’s experience delivering bespoke systems to UK manufacturers and reflects growing demand for more flexible, scalable and cost-effective digital solutions across the sector. Looking ahead, the company plans to expand WAMRAD’s capabilities further, including potential AI-driven enhancements to support automation and decision-making within operational workflows.
