The series of cyberattacks currently being experienced by organisations distributing the COVID-19 vaccine is just the latest in an ever-growing list of data breaches and cyber incidents in the healthcare sector. It’s time that the healthcare industry took cyber security seriously.
Due to the sheer volume of connected medical devices and the amount of important data they hold, healthcare organisations are quickly becoming a major and lucrative target for cyberattacks.
Unfortunately, hackers are continually trying to find new ways to compromise healthcare systems, therefore, organisations need to be thinking long term about how to best maximise security. As a first step, it’s up to industry’s IT leaders to take responsibility for solving the root of the problem – vulnerable code – and empowering developers with practices to ensure all code is safe from the outset.
