NHS attacks show that supply chain security is critical

If an attacker entered your network through your software supply chain, how would you know? It’s clear the NHS didn’t. With ransomware currently crippling the health service, software supply chains urgently need to be more secure. In fact, Gartner predicts that by 2025, 45% of organisations worldwide will have experienced attacks on their software supply chain.

Questions need to be asked about how the attackers got in. Are suppliers to the NHS like Advantage doing as much as they can to protect themselves and patient data – or are outsourced services a big risk to the NHS?

The outsourcing of IT services begs the question – who is making sure these external businesses are doing everything they can to protect patient data and make sure the provision of services is resilient?
