Ecommerce giant Amazon has announced that it plans to open a pair of cutting-edge robotic fulfillment centres in Ohio. Spanning over 1.4mn sq ft altogether, the two fulfillment centres will be located in Akron and Rossford respectively. The launch of the fulfillment centres will create more than 2,500 full-time jobs in the area.
Each fulfillment centre will be used to pick, pack and ship small items to customers such as books, electronics and toys.
“Ohio has been a great place to do business, serve customers and create jobs; as a result, we are thrilled to develop two state-of-the-art fulfillment centers in Akron and Rossford,” said Alicia Boler Davis, Amazon’s vice president of global customer fulfillment.
“We’re excited to grow our team in the Buckeye state, which now includes more than 8,500 Amazonians, and be part of the larger Ohio community.”
Over the past nine years, the ecommerce giant has invested more than $5bn in the state, according to the firm.
