A new warehouse in Venlo, The Netherlands, features the European market’s largest installation to date of ADAPTO, Vanderlande’s shuttle-based automated storage and retrieval system. Arrow Electronics’ state-of-the-art primary distribution centre (PDC) opened for business this summer and is one of the company’s largest warehouses worldwide.

The facility stocks a broad range of technologies for customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. These include semiconductors, passive and electromechanical components, connectors, embeddedsolutions and component programming solutions. Arrow has invested in the latest logistics technology and infrastructure to help its customers and suppliers achieve a better time to market.

With its flexibility and lean infrastructure, Vanderlande’s ADAPTO is central to the operation. Fast runners are located at specific areas in the warehouse, and the ADAPTO fleet services several case heights throughout the facility, offering a smooth and rapid response to order demand. Operator ergonomics is also important to this customer. Workstation mock-ups were engineered for comfort and then tested by Arrow staff before being introduced to the warehouse floor.

“We’re delighted to see the most ambitious and sizeable roll-out of our ADAPTO solution in Europe so far,” adds Terry Verkuijlen, Executive Vice President Warehouse Solutions, Vanderlande. “As well as being impressed with our innovative technologies, Arrow chose to work with us because we are committed to joint development. The aim is to keep improving together.”
