For me, National Coding Awareness Week needs to be about more than ‘just coding’. While there will always be space for high-performing STEM specialists, there is so much more to programming and technology jobs that is so often overlooked. We need soft skills too!

Without team management, empathy, leadership, and strong communications skills, programmers will sit in siloes, limited in scope and value.

If we want to attract the diverse rainbow of people that we need as technologists, let’s use initiatives like National Coding Awareness Week to show the breadth of opportunities out there beyond the code itself.
