Domino Printing Sciences (Domino) has partnered with Close the Loop to give its thermal inkjet (TIJ) customers access to Circular Planet, a European cartridge recycling programme for print consumables.

Through Circular Planet, Domino customers in the UK, Benelux, and Germany will be able to return non-hazardous TIJ cartridges using an established collection service that prioritises recovering materials from cartridges that have reached the end of their working life.

Domino’s latest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report highlights the progress it has made in areas including waste reduction, resource efficiency, and circularity across its products and operations. The partnership with Close the Loop supports these wider ambitions by making it easier for customers to recycle eligible TIJ cartridges through an established collection programme.

Sara Kolber, Supply Chain and Logistics Coordinator, Domino Printing Sciences, says: “We know our customers are looking for practical ways to reduce waste across their operations, including what happens to their empty printer cartridges. By partnering with Close the Loop, we’re able to offer an established recycling programme that’s easy to use and simple to integrate into existing operations.”

Once collected, customers’ waste TIJ cartridges are transported to Circular Planet’s partner recycling facility in Belgium. There, the cartridges are separated, cleaned, and processed into extruded pipes and other plastic products. Any components that cannot be recycled are recovered through energy-from-waste processes.

An Magerman, Managing Director at Close the Loop, says: “We are very pleased to welcome Domino to Circular Planet. Their participation reinforces the strength of a truly collaborative, multi-brand approach to closing the loop on print consumables. By working together with leading OEMs, we are accelerating the transition towards a more circular and cost-efficient model, where reuse is maximised and waste is significantly reduced. Domino’s commitment is another important step in scaling Circular Planet across Europe and delivering tangible environmental impact.”

The Circular Planet programme, operated by Close the Loop, was developed in partnership with leading ink and toner cartridge manufacturers, and provides organisations with a simple, solution for the collection and recycling of non-hazardous printer cartridges.

Domino’s TIJ recycling scheme is managed through the company’s direct subsidiaries in participating markets. Organisations interested in joining the programme can contact their local Domino representative to find out more.
