Vehicle safety specialist ECCO Safety is expanding the role of vehicle lighting with an innovative new solution designed to enhance the visibility of both vehicles and the people working around them.

ECCO has more than 50 years’ experience in vehicle warning and safety technology, supplying warning lighting, reversing alarms, camera systems and related safety equipment for commercial vehicle, construction, material handling and other specialist applications.

Developed primarily for demanding off-road and industrial environments, the ECCO ED3800 VIZ™ Series LED warning light goes beyond conventional vehicle lighting by combining high-intensity LED warning with patented HINVII™ technology.

While conventional warning lights and flashing beacons alert people to the presence of a vehicle, VIZ™ uses specialist HINVII™ illumination to enhance fluorescent materials commonly found in high-visibility clothing, traffic cones, signage and other safety equipment.

According to ECCO, this makes workers and important visual safety cues more prominent, helping operators identify people working nearby and improving awareness in busy or low-light environments.

Potential applications include construction, mining, quarrying, agriculture and material handling, where people and vehicles frequently operate in close proximity.

Thomas Miller, Global OE Sales Director at ECCO Safety, says: “Vehicle lighting has traditionally focused on making the vehicle visible and warning people that it is there. VIZ™ takes that concept further by helping to make the people and safety-critical objects around it more visible too.

“By putting people at the heart of vehicle safety, we believe this technology can provide operators with greater awareness of their working environment and add another layer of protection around vehicles and equipment.”

Rather than replacing conventional warning lighting, VIZ™ is designed to complement it, combining the established function of an LED warning light with specialist HINVII™ illumination in a single unit.

ECCO says the technology can be particularly valuable where visibility is compromised by darkness, poor weather, dust or other challenging operating conditions.

The development reflects ECCO’s wider focus on innovation-led safety, using new technologies to address the practical challenges faced by operators in demanding working environments.

Thomas Miller adds: “VIZ™ is about pushing the boundaries of what vehicle lighting can do. Instead of simply making a vehicle brighter or more noticeable, we are using lighting technology to help operators see and recognise potential hazards around the vehicle more clearly.”
